Studies on Air Pollution in Seoul and Daejeon City.

Abstract
This study was made on Air Pollution in Seoul City from Jun 1st. and in Incheon City from July 1st to the end of 1972. Seoul City was divided into 5 areas; i,e., the industrial area, the downtown area, the commercial area, the residential area, and the park area. Thirteen sampling sites were selected from each area. Incheon City was divided into 3 areas; i,e., the industrial area, the downtown area, and the residential area. Six sampling sites were selected from Incheon.
(A) Method of Measurement; Sulfur oxides were measured by PbO_(2) cylinder method according to the A.S.T.M D2010-65.
Sulfur dioxide was measured by Beckman Model 906A SO_(2) Analyzer. Deposit Gauge Method was employed for Dustfalls.
Suspended particulates were measured by Digital Dust Indicator, and Noise level was measured by Rion Noise Meter.
(B). Results;
A. Seoul City;
1. The total mean value of sulfur oxides was 1.30 §·SO_(3)/day/100§²PbO_(2), ranging from 0.39 to 3.14 §·SO_(3)/day/100§²PbO_(2).
2. The mean values of sulfur oxides by area were 2.10 §·SO_(3)/day/100§²PbO_(2) in industrial area, 1.30 in colmmercial area, 1.23 in downtown area, 0.9O in residential area and 0.60 §·SO_(3)/day/100§²PbO_(2) in Park area.
3. The mean value of sulfur dioxide was 0.036ppm, and the highest concentration was 0.34ppm.
4. In sulfur dioxide concentration, "The Wilkins" Convertion Method from SO_(3) showed 10-50% higher than the results by Auto analyzer.
5. The mean value of dustfalls was 45.14 ton/§´/month.
6. The soluble substances in dustfalls was 22.4%, the insoluble was 77.6%, and the ash was 46.1%.
7. The mean value of suspended particulates was 0.37 mg/m^(3), ranging from 0.12 to 0.74 mg/m^(3).
8. The mean ualue of noise level was 69.2 phon, ranging from 45 to 89 phon, and the highist area was the downtown area(83.8) and the next was commercial area(82.7 phon)
B. Incheon City;
1. The mean value of total sulfur oxides was 1.29 §·SO_(3)/day/100§²PbO_(2), ranging from 0.44 to 3.01 §·SO_(3)/day/100§²PbO_(2).
2. The mean values of sulfur oxides by area were 2.04 in industrial area, 1.09 in downtown area, and 0.76 §·SO_(3)/day/100§²PbO_(2) in residentiat area.
3. Tte mean value of sulfur dioxide was 0.04 ppm, and the highest concentration was 0.24 ppm.
4. The Wilkins¢¥Convertion Method from SO_(3) also showed 10-50% higher than the results by Autoanalyzer in sulfur dioxide concentration.
5. Tte mean value of dustfall was 29.12 ton/§´/month, ranging from 10.04 to 46.85 ton/§´/month.
6. The mean value of suspended particulates was 0.38 mg/m^(3) ranging from 0.18 to 0.64 mg/m^(3).
7. The soluble substances in dustfall was 28.4%, the insoluble was 71.6% and the asg was 45.8%.
8. The mean value of noise level was 76.6 phon, ranging from 52 to 86 phon.
